Mainly keeping track of what’s been planted, when where and why, in a series of experiments in growing food and being a bit more sustainably self-sufficient. Other things that may poke their noses in are baking, brewing, knitting, and whittling. More pictures are promised once I work out what to do with them.

Why would one call a blog Fuggles?

It’s a nice word (go ahead, roll it around the tongue, like a blueberry). And it’s easy to remember and type.  But there are lots of other easy, nice words, like swoosh…we chose Fuggles because it’s also the name of one of the hops we grow so it fitted in with the whole reason I wanted to start a blog, to keep track of a whole bundle of edible horticultural pondering and pottering.  In case you’re wondering, I can’t be 100% certain that the hops on the main image are Fuggles, because our plants are too close together, and it could be Mathon and Cobbs which we grow alongside but which, each year, become terrifyingly tangled with one another.  But it’s a cheering photo, and will stay until I can take something more botanically accurate in the summer.
